Our Story...

The foundations of the band begun when Elijah and Simon met at a very young age in the small town of Hazelton in north western BC, both already in love with their instruments. Years of friendship and jamming led them to form a rock duo. Raised in the northern festival scene they were able to land a few good gigs. One of which was a slot at the Smithers Midsummer Festival of 2011 where Stephen was among the crowd, thinking to himself "gee these guys are good but they could sure use a bass player"... Later that summer, Simon went to a music camp hosted at Stephen’s family lodge in Smithers, BC. After becoming good friends, they decided that Stephen should join the band. That weekend was a life changer for the three boys and ever since, they’ve been a trio of great friends who share a fiery passion for creating music and playing live shows.

The Racket's following has been spreading throughout BC’s North West and have played all over the province. They have Two EPs, "Fortune" and “Out of the Cold”, available on iTunes and Bandcamp. Some notable achievements are playing as opener acts for Trooper in 2012 and for 54 40 in 2014. The trio has also shared performances and established good reputations with some other renowned artists in the BC music scene such as Alex Cuba, Rachelle van Zanten, The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer, Scotty Dunbar, Jack Garton, and King Crow and the Ladies from Hell.  In 2013, they were awarded the title of “BC’s Best Teen Band of 2013” after winning a province wide competition put on by Youthink Magazine.

All three boys were raised in British Columbia’s beautiful North-West, fishing the rivers, skiing the mountains and camping all around. Experiencing this aspect of the world has inspired them to create songs dedicated to preserving the natural beauty they grew up with, and fighting back against corporations attempting to profit from it’s destruction. The Racket stands strongly against huge scale development such as the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project or construction of an LNG plant on Lelu Island at the mouth of the Skeena River...

As of 2015, Elijah and Simon have completed a two year program, the Contemporary Music and Technology Program, at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. Post graduation, Elijah was awarded the Fred Sherratt award (one of 12 music student graduates to be chosen across the country).  He was brought to Toronto where he met the executives of Universal Music, Much Music, and the staff at CARNAS/JUNO headquarters. The trio has also toured British Columbia during the summer of 2015, playing a total of 14 shows including seven festivals, from the Kootenays, to Vancouver Island, to northern BC.

In the present day, the trio is residing in their hometown of Smithers, BC for the winter of 2016/17. On September 3rd, 2016 they officially released their first full-length album, "The Racket". You can find it online almost anywhere (Google Play, Apple Music, Spotify...).  This winter the band will be releasing DIY videos of their new original music in the works. Keep an ear and an eye out for The Racket...
